I consulted Anne Richardson in her capacity as a nutritional therapist. My reasons for consulting her were to gain some relief from chronic medical problems by obtaining help to adjust my diet accordingly. She maintained a professional approach at all times but was able to put me at ease with her friendly and approachable manner. Anne Richardson is my yoga teacher and very good at it! The important thing about getting anything right is listening in the first place and identifying the problem/s to be solved. Anne carefully reviewed where I currently was with my eating habits, lifestyle and then what my body was already telling me, i.e. digestive discomfort, feeling very drowsy in the late afternoons, sinus congestion, and from there discussing with me what I wanted to achieve from my consultations with her. From the initial consultation a plan was created with simple dietary supplements and an honest look at what and when I was eating. This sounds simple but I had not done this personally before simply due to habit – it was always something I said to myself I would do later when I had more time, but having a simple set of written targets to try and achieve which I understood from someone I trusted was really helpful. The initial results were very quick, especially in the increase of my personal energy. I was soon sleeping better and the disappearance of regular indigestion, heart burn, and that sudden feeling of sleepiness that I would get at around 6.00-7.00pm every day was a revelation! An unexpected challenge, which came from the diet plans and guidance, was the challenge of simply not going to the same places on the shelves in Sainsbury’s every time I went in there, in other words, changing the habits of years and trying some new foods and food types which were easily available and, as I found out, much better than what I had been purchasing for so long even though I thought I had been eating healthily previously! These ‘new’ foods were actually nicer and the change to them was therefore very easy. I can safely say that I have changed my diet and that it is not a struggle to keep it going simply because it is better than one I had before and I actually feel more lively and able to concentrate better. I also enjoy cooking again due to the new things I am experimenting with. anneWorking with Anne on my diet and day to day lifestyle was probably the most valuable thing I have done for myself in 20 years (my friends – they say I am not so grumpy any more either!)
